Amid a volatile election season, prominent Christian actor and former child television star Kirk Cameron is encouraging believers to refrain from disengaging from the political process, arguing that unity is important now more than ever.
In an exclusive interview with The Gospel Herald, the 46-year-old “Fireproof” actor said Christians shouldn’t get discouraged by today’s political climate and contended that contrary to popular belief, it’s actually an “exciting time” to be a Christian in America.
“Christians should remember that we are not trying to elect a king; we’ve already got a king – his name is Jesus Christ,” he said. “He wasn’t voted into office, and He wasn’t elected by the media – He had a perfect foreign policy, He understand welfare and healthcare, He is a great physician – we don’t need a king, we have the King of Kings. So, Christians, what you need to do is remember who you are, and whose you are. We need to elect leaders who will represent the King’s way in our land.”
He added, “There has never been a more exciting time to be a Christian in America. This could be our finest hour – think about it. It’s when all hope seems lost when God parts the waters, when He splits the Red Sea. I think this could be a Red Sea moment for you and me and America’s story right now. We’re people of faith, we have eyes to see the goodness and faithfulness of God when His people turn to him.”
It’s important for Christians to unite in prayer, Cameron said, as America has undoubtedly reached a point where it needs divine intervention, revival, and spiritual healing.
“Pray that our brothers and sisters in the family of faith would not become discouraged and disengage at this critical time in our nation’s history – everything is hanging in the balance, so much is at stake,” he advised. “What we need to do is come together, the whole family needs to come together, because when the family gets together, and the spirit of God is moving, we are unstoppable, and we can be a force for good in America that resource health and prosperity and blessing to this nation.”
The father-of-six is putting his beliefs into action: He is the organizer behind “Revive Us,” a live meeting of artists, writers, musicians and pastors to pray, worship and discuss how to solve America’s problems. The program, which airs October 18, will originate in Chicago and be simulcast to over 700 theaters across the country.
The one-of-a-kind event will feature Dr. Ben Carson, author Eric Metaxas, pastors Francis Chan and Dr. James MacDonald, best-selling author Jennifer Rothschild, and musical performances by Vertical Church Band and the duo Abby Ward and Isabella Cameron.
“‘Revive Us’ is about reviving the heart and soul of our country,” he explained. “It is a time for thousands of believers to gather in movie theaters all over the nation to worship, to pray together, and to learn how to revive our nation from the inside out and the bottom all the way up to the top.”
He continued, “Gather the children and grandchildren, the whole family is getting together. We need to be doing our part to bring about revival, first in our hearts, then in our homes, our churches, and finally, our nation.”
